SCSBC is open for any students of Durham University to join regardless of which college you are from. We welcome students interested in learning how to row, scull, cox or coach. If you would like to join SCSBC, please email us at cuthberts.boatclub(AT)durham.ac.uk with your full name, detail of any rowing/sculling experience you have and any other questions you may have or fill in the form on our Contact page. Alternatively, find us at the Fresher’s Fair or make yourselves known to one of the members of SCSBC who will be happy to help get you started.
People with any level of experience, from complete novices to elite rowers are more than welcome to join. New SCSBC members have ranged from members of national rowing squads, old Durham University rowers, and novices with no previous experience of rowing who just want to get involved. Rowing has an incredible tradition at Durham University of bringing people together in a totally new sport when starting their 1st year at Durham, with many members rowing for many years after graduating. No other boat club offers this sense of community and memorable rowing experience in such a way as SCSBC does with its large pool of trained and experienced coaches, grand welcoming boathouse with prime location on the Wear, and its use of the University sports facilities at Maiden Castle.
